National Day of Prayer

By Josiah Espinoza| May 2nd, 2019

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. ~ 1 Tim. 2:1-4

America today is in need of much prayer. Our President, our leaders and our government have abandoned God and his commandments. They have slowly but surely led this nation down the path of depravity and chaos. Sexual immorality, the slaughter of children and the overall secularization of the people are more prominent today then ever before. Yet, it is the call of the Christian to fall on their face before Almighty God and make supplication on behalf of America.

Paul urged Timothy and the saints of his day to pray and to give thanks for “all people”, namely, kings and all who were in positions of authority. He urged them to do this because they were being murdered and persecuted for their faith. The intention of their prayer was for God to bring peace to the church in the face of death and persecution. Why would Paul ask the people to do this? It would have been far to easy for the church to cry out for God’s wrath to come upon Caesar and Rome then to pray for peace and for their salvation.

God desires “all people”, meaning all kinds of people (i.e. kings, rulers, authorities, etc.) to be saved. Yes, that includes President Trump, Nancy Pelosi, Barrack Obama, Chuck Schumer, Alexandra Ocasio Cortez, etc. and the rest of our governing officials. We pray for our President, our Secretaries, our House of Representatives, our Judges, our Governors and our Mayors, that they may be saved through the gospel, so that we can live peaceful and godly lives.

God desires “all people” (kings and rulers) to be saved, yes, that includes President Trump…

O God, look upon the United States of America with mercy; we have sinned in your eyes. We have slaughtered innocent lives in the womb and have continued to live our lives in callous disregard. Sexual immorality is ever increasing and we have all too easily accepted it. Corruption and depravity reign in the hearts of men as they seek their own pleasures and their own riches. We have all done what is right in our own eyes. So now, O God, break our hearts and bring us to our knees. May we turn from our wickedness and cry out to you for your salvation that we may live peaceful, godly and holy lives. Save our nation from its injustices and its lawlessness, for this we pray on behalf of our countrymen. Amen.
